Wells Fargo does not publish a standard daily ATM withdrawal amount. Officially, your limit is set per card and printed in the materials you receive with your card. What sets Wells Fargo apart: you can view and adjust your own limits yourself, using the Manage Debit Card Limits feature in the Wells Fargo Mobile app or Wells Fargo Online, no phone call needed.
This guide covers where to find your exact limit, how to change it in the app, the difference between your ATM limit and purchase limit, Wells Fargo’s ATM fees, and the two ways to withdraw cash without your card.

How to check or change your Wells Fargo ATM limit
Wells Fargo publishes three official methods:
- App or Online Banking: “Sign on to the Manage Debit Card Limits feature in the Wells Fargo Mobile app and in Wells Fargo Online to view or adjust your dollar limits.” This is the fastest route, and Wells Fargo is one of the few big banks that lets you raise the limit yourself within the allowed range.
- Phone: call the number on the back of your card and follow the automated options.
- Branch: talk to a banker at any Wells Fargo branch near you.
Lowering your limit is also a smart fraud-protection move, a stolen card can only drain up to the daily cap you set.
Debit card vs ATM card at Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo issues both card types: the debit card is a contactless chip card (tap, insert, or swipe), while the Wells Fargo ATM card is a chip card for insert or swipe only. Both carry daily dollar limits set per card. Debit cards have a separate daily purchase limit on top of the ATM cash limit, and cash back at a store register draws from the purchase limit rather than the ATM cap.
Need more cash than your limit allows?
- Raise your limit in the app before you head to the machine, then set it back afterward.
- Go inside to a teller: counter withdrawals are limited by your balance, not the ATM cap. Bring your card and photo ID, and call ahead for very large amounts.
- Use cash back at checkout: it counts against your purchase limit instead.
- Split the withdrawal across days: the limit is per day.

Two ways to withdraw without your card
Wells Fargo supports cardless ATM access two ways, more than most banks:
- Digital wallet tap: add your Wells Fargo debit card to a digital wallet (Apple Pay and PayPal on iPhone; Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and PayPal on Android, plus Paze and Garmin Pay), tap your device on the contactless symbol at the ATM, and enter your PIN. This works at Wells Fargo ATMs and at participating non-Wells Fargo ATMs.
- One-time access code: request an 8-digit ATM access code in the Wells Fargo Mobile app, enter it at the ATM with your PIN, and transact as usual, useful when your phone has no NFC or the ATM has no contactless reader.
Note that some ATMs in secure vestibules still require a physical card to open the door. Wells Fargo operates more than 11,000 ATMs and about 4,100 branches.
